The Three-Pack of Full Practice Assessments
Where can you get full practice tests for a scholarship or entrance English assessment?
The Argo three-pack is three complete English practice assessments, each covering Verbal Reasoning and Reading Comprehension with fully worked solutions. It's a question pack, not a guide: you sit Test One as a diagnostic (scoring both within and beyond the time limit), work through the technique guide on your weakest question types, then sit Tests Two and Three to measure improvement and rehearse real exam conditions.
What the three-pack is — and how it differs from the guide
The Scholarship & Entrance English Assessment Guide teaches technique: one chapter per question type, each with the method that reliably answers it and a worked example. The three-pack is the other half of that pair — it's a question pack. Three full assessments, each with a complete Verbal Reasoning and Reading Comprehension section, and every question answered by a detailed, worked solution that shows the reasoning and why each wrong option is wrong.
Both are deliberately difficult. That's the point: hard questions with precise solutions teach a student to handle difficulty, so that easy and moderate questions become effortless. A perfect first score isn't expected.
How to use the three tests with the guide
The three tests are designed to be worked in sequence, with the guide in between. This is the cycle the pack is built around:
Test One — the diagnostic.
- Sit Test One's Verbal Reasoning and Reading Comprehension sections properly, within the time limit — no guessing or rushing.
- Mark where the clock ran out (just how far you got, not right or wrong), then finish the rest untimed.
- Give yourself two scores: one for questions correct within the time limit, and one for all your answers regardless of time.
- Underline or highlight the question types you were consistently wrong on, and the ones that felt hardest. This step matters most.
Work the guide. Read through the guide, paying extra attention to the types Test One exposed as weak. Practise by re-doing the difficult questions from Test One and following the worked examples until you feel confident.
Test Two — measure the change.
- Sit Test Two within the time limit, mark how far you got, then finish it untimed.
- Compare: did you complete more within the time limit than last time? Are you getting more right in the untimed portion? Is it the same type of question tripping you up?
- Refresh your memory on the guide's steps for your remaining weak spots, then re-do Test Two untimed with the guide open, deliberately following the outlined techniques.
Test Three — the dress rehearsal.
- Sit Test Three as though it's the real thing: a closed room, timed, no outside help.
- Mark it out of 110 and ask honestly — has my mark improved? Am I still unclear on any type? Can I finish within the time limit? Am I satisfied?
- Evaluate what study is still needed, returning to the guide for both techniques and more questions — and repeat until confident.
Try before you commit
You don't have to take the pack's word for its difficulty or its solutions. A sample worked section reproduces a handful of real questions from the pack with their full worked answers, so you can see exactly how the questions read and how the solutions reason.
Steps
- Sit Test One timed, then untimed, and record both scores
- Identify the question types you're weakest on
- Work the guide against those weak spots, re-doing hard questions
- Sit Test Two to measure the change, then re-do it untimed with the guide open
- Sit Test Three under real exam conditions, mark it out of 110, and repeat the cycle until confident
